Everyone loves a sale. So how happy you will be when you find a bed that you just love…and it's on sale! Hey look. The one next to it is on sale too. Hmmm. Almost every bed in the showroom is on sale. This must be a special sale day. Good thing you decided to shop today.

Guess what? Most beds are on sale most of the time. Remember the myth known as the list price? The sale price is his brother. It's just another inflated number to start the negotiating out higher.

But the sale price is even more devious than the list price. Since the price is already discounted, you'll be more hesitant to try and get it even lower. Heck, if they've already taken $200 off the regular price, is it even reasonable for you to try and bargain?

ABSOLUTELY!

Don't think of a sale price as a sale. It's just a list price in disguise. You already know the list price is an imposter. It's an unreasonably high price that the salesman uses as a decoy. The sale price is equally unreasonable, and you should not show it any more respect.

A sale price is not a sale price. It's a starting point. You'll end up paying less than that.

When you shop for a bed, just notice how many beds are on sale. You'll always find more on sale than not. And if so many beds are on sale all the time, what does this tell you about the regular price?

Just to assure you that I'm not exaggerating, I stopped by a mattress store today. There were 41 beds on display. Every one of them was on sale!

So when you look at a price tag on a bed, whether it's on sale or not, just know that you won't be paying that much. You're smarter than that.
