Buying A Mattress

Buy Now, Pay Later

This is a trick that's used on customers everywhere, and it sure works. Don't let it sucker you in too.

Delayed payment. Buy now, pay later. Ninety days, same as cash. Finance it over 12 months. No interest for 12 months.

How you choose to pay for your bed is something you'll have to decide based on your own financial situation. But whenever possible, I would advise you to pay for the whole thing up front. Financing will usually cost you more because there will be interest.

But regardless, don't even talk to the salesman about how you're going to pay until you've agreed on a fair price for the bed. Because the method of payment has nothing to do with the price of the bed.

If the salesman asks you how you'll be paying for it, just tell him that you haven't thought about it. Tell him that isn't really an issue.

When you say that you can't afford something, the salesman will often tell you about their financing plans. This gets people distracted. They stop thinking about whether or not it's a fair price. And instead, they start thinking about whether or not they can afford it.

Don't get caught in this trap. Focus on getting the price down to a number you feel comfortable with before you discuss payment options. One thing at a time.
